Caustic Potash Flake
Potassium Hydroxide, KOH
Caustic potash flake, also commonly known as potassium hydroxide, is a white colour-less solid with many industrial applications. It is a precursor to most soft and liquid soaps as well as numerous potassium containing chemicals.
As a strong alkali, caustic potash reacts with numerous acids to produce potassium salts creating phosphates, cyanide, carbonate or permanganate which are then used in the production of fertilisers, glass, soaps, cleaning agents and disinfectants. The end product is also used in many industrial processes including electroplating and mining.
In the food and beverage industry, it is used to control pH, stabilise and thicken as well as being used in the processing stages of a variety of fresh and dried foods.
Caustic potash flake is also used as a bleaching agent for textiles, the removal of animal hairs from hide and used heavily in the paper and pulp industry during manufacturing processes.
Caustic potash flake or dry potassium hydroxide is produced by the evaporation of water from monohydrate potassium hydroxide. Typically, the solid which is left behind is flaked and packed, or further compacted into small briquettes. Monarch Chemicals currently supply this product as flake, packed into 25Kg bags. If you require this product in bulk as an alternative end product including caustic potash liquor, please call us or use the contact forms to discuss your requirements.
