As part of our commitment to safety and compliance, we have recently installed a brand-new sodium hypochlorite bulk tank and 30,000 litre effluent treatment tank at our Sheerness site as the previous tanks were nearing the end of their certified lives.
The new sodium hypochlorite bulk tank has been manufactured from glass reinforced plastic (GRP) utilising a resin with properties of high chemical resistance. The new tank, manufactured and installed by Forbes, has a capacity of 45,000 litres equating to approximately 55 tonnes, and stands over 7m tall. To underline our commitment to safety, glass reinforced plastic was our material of choice for the new tank as there has been reports that some bulk tanks constructed of polypropylene have experienced failures in the past few years.
Following correct disposal procedures, the old tank was drained, decontaminated and dismantled in preparation for responsible disposal by Adler & Allan who specialise in the decontamination and disposal of bulk tanks.
The operation was an outstanding success and the new tanks were in place and ready for use within the agreed timescales and with zero disruption to our customers and daily site operations.
