Sodium Bisulphate
Dry Acid, Sodium Hydrogensulphate
Sodium Bisulphate, also known as Dry Acid or Sodium Hydrogensulphate (and often spelt Sodium Bisulfate), is a white to slightly yellow, crystalline, or beaded solid compound with the chemical formula NaHSO₄. It is formed by the reaction of sulphuric acid with sodium hydroxide.
Due to its ionic nature, sodium bisulphate is highly soluble in water, making it a versatile compound for numerous applications.
As a water treatment chemical, sodium bisulphate acts as an effective pH reducer and acidifier, aiding in the adjustment of water pH levels. It is commonly used in swimming pools, water purification systems, and wastewater treatment plants.
As an effective pH adjuster, sodium bisulphate is widely used in the production of various chemicals and end products including pigments, dyes, and intermediates. Is it also utilised in the paper and pulp industry as a bleaching agent and in metal cleaning industry where the acidic properties of sodium bisulphate help to remove rust, scale and stains from metal surfaces.
