Epichlorohydrin is a clear, colour-less liquid product which possesses a pungent, chloroform-like odour. It is a chlorinated epoxy compound with the chemical formula C3H5ClO and is moderately soluble in water and miscible with most organic solvents
It is predominately used as an industrial solvent and chemical intermediate in chemical manufacturing, the textile industry and the paper industry.
Epichlorohydrin is a highly reactive product and has many uses in chemical manufacturing such as; production of glycerol, plastics, epoxy glues, resins and elastomers. The product can also be used as a polymer in the production of tea bags, coffee filters and sausage casings and has a use in its polymer state in water purification.
