Calcium Chloride
Calcium Dichloride
Calcium Chloride, also referred to as Calcium Dichloride is a colourless, crystalline solid. Highly soluble in water this chemical is commonly found sea water as well as natural mineral springs.
Calcium Chloride is widely used as a non-sodium chloride de-icer. The properties of this chemical make it the optimum choice for de-icing as once applied it quickly forms an ice melting brine, lowering the freezing point of water to melt snow and ice to keep surfaces clearer for longer.
Calcium Chloride liquor is also often used as an additive in refrigeration units and as a refrigerating brine in ice rinks.
In agriculture, calcium chloride offers a source of calcium and chloride for crops as well as being used to reduce sodium levels in soil. It is also added to animal feed mixes to allow proper absorption of calcium.
In the food and drink industry, calcium chloride is commonly used in the brewing process of beer to correct mineral deficiencies in water, correct the pH balance and provide the correct level of calcium ions for enzyme function, kettle protein and yeast metabolism. It is also used in the manufacture of cheese products to restore calcium levels and increase acidity levels.
Other industries that use calcium chloride are water treatment, oil field and construction materials (ready mix cement).
